TABC |
In
October 1993, TABC founder Maureen Rankine
gathered a group of 15 friends at Roosevelt
Island Racquet Club in New York City to
host the first Tennis Marathon; in honor
of Breast Cancer Awareness month. The
evening raised $250, which was donated
to SHARE, a self-help organization for
women with breast and ovarian cancer.
Twelve years later, TABC is still going
strong.
TABC is the only tennis organization specially
formed to expand awareness of breast cancer
and raise funds to find a a cure!
TABC is a 501 (C) (3) organization formed
in 1996 that puts breast cancer awareness
at Centre Court, educating people about
the disease and raising funds.
Through tennis and sporting events TABC
provides a means of raising funds which
have benefited several organizations

ease for a while.
Tennis is a game that brings out the best

A
professional tennis instructor for more
than fifteen years, Mo has seen firsthand
how playing tennis can impact the quality
of life of breast cancer survivors. Playing
tennis helps them regain their strength
through conditioning. It also helps their
families and friends to put their minds
at ease for a while and have a good time.
Tennis is simply a great way for all those
affected to get back "in the swing
of things" and return to leading a
healthy and enjoyable lifestyle.
Having seen this positive impact, Mo decided
to create Tennis Against Breast Cancer (TABC),
which puts breast cancer awareness on center
court, educating people about the disease
and raising funds to help find a cure.
For over a decade TABC has held events to
achieve these goals. In addition to the
Annual TABC Challenge, TABC has held Pro-Ams
and fundraisers throughout the country.
Joining breast cancer survivors and advocates
at the events are top professional players,
as well as TV and motion picture celebrities,
other professional athletes and political
figures.
Tennis Against Breast Cancer is Mo's way
of making a difference through the sport
that has given her so much. Why not make
it your way too. Join our team. Together
we can make a difference. |
